Associated Student Body (ASB) is student organizations that raise and spend money for students. California law allows students in public schools to raise money and decide how it will be used. These organizations must be made up of current students at the school where the money is kept.
The money raised by these groups is called ASB funds. Managing these funds gives students a chance to learn important skills. Students learn how to budget, make spending decisions, and run activities similar to a small business. They also develop leadership and teamwork skills while helping their school and fellow students.
As students and staff work together to plan events, projects, and activities, students gain experience in project planning and problem-solving. Through ASB organizations, students not only support their school community but also improve their own learning and leadership abilities.
ASBs are governed by the California Education Code, Title 5 of the California Administrative Code, California Constitution, Internal Revenue Code and the Penal Code, as well as Elk Grove Unified School District board policies (BP), administrative regulations (AR) and procedures that have the effect of laws relative to how ASBs are managed and operated in the Elk Grove Unified School District.
